The Department of Circuit Theory is a part of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), one of eight faculties of the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague. The department was founded in 1970 with the aim of concentrating and new profiling a common base of circuit theory teaching for all the weak-current branches of study.

The department provides the teaching of subjects in the bachelor, master, and doctoral study program. The teaching is concerned with both basic subjects of circuit theory and continuing and specialized subjects of various focusing. Their aim is to offer students a complex teaching program from basic knowledge to narrowly specialized disciplines mainly related to the research conducted at the department. An individual section teaching is dedicated to the pedagogical activity of the department.

In the area of research, the department deals with the solving of problems of the digital processing of signals (particularly speech and biological ones) and the implementing of signal processing algorithms (digital filtering). Other topics being solved at the department are related to the optimized design of modern integrated analogue continuously and discrete-working circuits in the voltage and current mode for applications in systems for signal transmission and processing. Research in the area of the theory and applications of magnetic material measuring is important too.

The department collaborates with domestic and foreign universities and companies in the field of science and research: AVČR ÚRE (Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics), VUT Brno (University of Technology in Brno), UNOB Brno, TU Liberec (Technical University of Liberec), ŽU v Žilině (University of Žilina), FÚ FF Karlovy university, ZČU Plzeň (University of West Bohemia in Pilsen), IDIAP Martigny Switzerland, Fonetický ústav SAV Bratislava (Phonetic Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava), Speech processing group in Siemens AG in Munich. Other international university workplaces collaborate within the frame of projects COST 249 a COST 278, VPFM, a.s. Frýdek-Místek (Rolling mill in Frýdek-Místek), ITS Benda s.r.o. Frýdek-Místek, STU FEI Bratislava (Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology), LAAS Toulouse in France, Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse in France, Neurological clinic for children at FVL UK Motol (Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague Motol), CertiCon, a.s., ASICentrum, s.r.o., ČKD Elektrotechnika, a.s.
